Malaysia Visas & immigration

As an international student studying in Malaysia you will be granted a student pass and visa for a year (or part of a year), depending on the country which issues your passport. You are personally responsible for the timely submission of the documents to obtain/renew your student pass.

New regulations for international students studying in Malaysia

The Ministry of Higher Education of Malaysia via its private arm Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) has enacted several new measures in order to streamline and facilitate visa processes for international students who wish to enroll at Higher Education Institutions in Malaysia.
As part of these new arrangements, EMGS will now coordinate the International Student’s Pass (Visa), the provision of Medical Insurance and the arrangements for health checks. To cover the costs associated with providing this service, EMGS has imposed a number of new charges which amount to a minimum of RM1830 for all new applications and a minimum of RM950 for the renewal of a student pass. The University has agreed to share part of the additional costs as part of our commitment to supporting international students to study at the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus.

Obtaining and renewing your student pass

New students

New international students at UNMC should visit our student pass and visa entry page for more information on how to obtain the necessary documents before arrival in Malaysia.

Returning students

You must submit your passport and other documents to the student Visa Office 7 weeks before the expiry date of your student pass.
There will be a separate charge for the extension of the student pass and multiple entry visas. Students will bear the extra charges or compound for late submission of documents.

Identification documents

You must carry your original passport with you at all times.  The immigration Enforcement Officers conduct random checks at public places.
If you decide not to carry your original passport (when visiting places near campus), make sure you carry a certified true copy of your passport and your UNMC student ID card.
